A one-day educational programme on the theme “Media Education and Role of Youth in Media” was successfully conducted at Don Bosco School, Bishramganj on 14th July 2025. The programme aimed at sensitising students on the influence of media and empowering them to be responsible and proactive users of media platforms.
The session began with a short prayer. The Principal of the school, Fr. Remol Marak welcomed the esteemed resource persons, Fr. Ivan D’Silva, SVD and Fr. Bala Showry from the Diocese of Agartala, and briefly highlighted the importance of media literacy in today’s digital world.
Fr. Ivan D’Silva led the first session focusing on media awareness, the growth of digital communication, and how media shapes public perception and culture. He presented engaging videos and real-life examples, encouraging the students to be critical thinkers and responsible consumers of information.
Fr. Bala Showry animated the second session on the role of youth in the media landscape, highlighting how young people can use media platforms for positive change, evangelization, and promoting values of truth, justice, and peace. He also spoke about the ethical use of social media and the dangers of misinformation, cyberbullying, and digital addiction.
Interactive activities, group discussions, and Q&A sessions helped make the programme lively and engaging. Students actively participated and shared their experiences and opinions, making the event both educative and impactful.
In total, 160 students from Classes X, XI, and XII took part in this enriching experience. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by a student representative, who expressed gratitude on behalf of all the students for the inspiring and eye-opening sessions.
The one-day media education programme was a great success, leaving the students informed, inspired, and equipped to engage more thoughtfully and ethically with media in their daily lives.
